VINELAND - The Dukes kept the good vibes going heading into their 3-game Region XIX series against Atlantic Cape. Despite blustery conditions, Cumberland Baseball's offense remained full speed ahead.
In Game 1, Cumberland sputtered in the early innings as they trailed 4-1 heading into the bottom of the 6th inning. The Dukes then scored 13 unanswered runs over the next 3 innings to defeat ACCC 14-4 in 8 innings. Cole Shover led the Dukes offense going 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs and 3 runs scored. Tyler Schoppe followed by going 2 for 3 with 3 runs scored. Otley Makosky won his first collegiate game going 7 innings while striking out 12 Buccaneers.
Game 2 was the Malachi Woods Show. The freshman from Milton, DE drilled two grand slams for the Dukes as they led 15-1 after 3 innings. Woods would finish going 3 for 4 with 10 RBIs and 3 runs scored. Billy Smith would hammer his first collegiate home run as he went 2 for 3 with 5 RBIs and 4 runs scored. Bryan Dedmon woul go perfect on the day going 2 for 2 with 3 RBIs and a run scored. Xavier Anglero received the start and went 4 innings striking out 4. Pat Loughney and Seth Suppi each appeared in their first collegiate games as Loughney would throw 2 innings striking out 5 as Suppi followed with a perfect 7th innings to secure the 29-2 victory.
In the final game of the series, the Buccaneers battled the Dukes to the end, but the Dukes prevailed to complete the sweep with a 9-7 victory. Kory Jenkins led the Dukes by going 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored.
