Kurtz dominant once again, not enough to hold off Salem
VINELAND - RCSJ-Cumberland Baseball ran into some unexpected turbulence in their conference series against neighboring Salem CC. The Mighty Oaks jumped all over the Dukes in games 1 and 2 in dominant fashion to defeat the Dukes in back to back games for the first time since returning to Region XIX play. Ty Powell and Tyler Bunting providing the offensive highlights in the first two games combining for 5 hits against the Mighty Oaks.
In Game 3, Joey Kurtz continued his fantastic 2025 season as he struck out 9 batters in 5 innings of work against Salem while giving up just two hits and one unearned run. The Dukes and Mighty Oaks were deadlocked at 1 run apiece after Cumberland scored on a Salem error in the top of the 4th. That's where the score stayed until the top of the 11th where a Kory Jenkins double scored Brinden Floyd who reached base via hit by pitch and advanced to 2nd base on a passed ball. Jenkins would then be driven in on a hard hit liner by Tyler Bunting. The Mighty Oaks would answer immediately in the bottom of the 11th where a 2-run home run followed a lead off walk to tie the game. Salem would then finish off the series with a walk off sacrifice fly to win 4-3.
