Baseball earns season-opening DH split
VINELAND - The RCSJ-Cumberland Dukes began the 2025 season with a bang but the day ended level as the Dukes split their season-opening doubleheader against visiting Genesee CC (NY). Austin Wokock earned the win on the mound for the Dukes in Game 1 as he shook off early season struggles after giving up 3 runs in the 2nd inning. In the bottom of the 2nd, Tyler Bunting got the Dukes start with a towering fly ball that left the Dukes Baseball Complex for his first home run of the season. The Dukes then used a 5-run 5th inning to put the game out of reach sparked by Jimmy Gallo's bases loaded single that plated two runs. Kory Jenkins put an exclamation on the game with his first career home run with a drive to left center field to make it a 10-3 ball game.
The Dukes would fall in game 2 as the Cougars from Batavia, NY put up 6 runs in the top of the 7th to turn a two run ball game into a game that would be out of reach for the Dukes.
Cumberland returns to action Tuesday, February 25 as they host Bucks County. First pitch is scheduled for 6 PM.
