Northampton rolls past Dukes
BETHLEHEM, PA- The Dukes men's and women's basketball team crossed state lines this past Thursday to take on perennial strong basketball programs in the Northampton Community College Spartans.
Men
Cumberland would battle to stay in contention for most of the first half but the Spartans offense proved to be too much as they jumped out to a 49-35 lead in the first half. Malachi Green led Cumberland scorers with 11 points and 2 rebounds in the first half. He would end the game with 16 points and 9 rebounds.The Spartans would come out and continue to dominate in the second half as they rolled past the Dukes by a score of 103-73.Angel Smith and Torey Harris would both score 15 points a piece and Smith would bring down 12 rebounds for the Dukes. Jabril Bowman came off the bench and scored 13 points. Cumberland shot 37.1% from the field (23/62).
Women
The strong defense of the Spartans was too much for the Dukes as they were only able to score 14 points in the first half. Northampton led 41-14 at the half and would continue to lead the Dukes until the final whistle, the score ended 83-35. Aniah Hitchens led the Dukes in scoring with 15 points. She was joined by teammate Taleah Robinson with 10 points and 7 rebounds. The season leading scorer Julianna Wilson scored 7 points and secured 8 rebounds.
Both the men's and women's team will travel to Newton,NJ to take on the Sussex County College Skylanders on Saturday, February 4th. The women's game will tip off at 1PM and men's at 3PM.
