Late goal sinks Cumberland
VINELAND - Cumberland Womens Soccer held their home opener yesterday afternoon as they hosted Montgomery County CC. The cloudy, overcast day turned bright early on for the Dukes as Kendra Stipes buried a 1st half goal to put Cumberland up 1-0 in the 28th minute. Play remained even for the rest of the first half before an inadvertant handball in the 18-yard box led to a penalty kick for the Mustangs. Goalkeeper Shannon Kelly made the initial stop on the kick, but not enough to slow the ball down as it trickled into the net.
The game was well-played throughout the second half until a Mustang counter-attack in the final moments of the second half led to the eventual game winning goal to sink the Dukes. Cumberland returns to play Thursday, October 7 as they host Ocean County. Kickoff scheduled for 4 PM
