The Cumberland County College Men's and Women's Basketball Programs split their doubleheader with Atlantic Cape Community College on Thursday night. The Women coasted to a 71-46 victory after jumping out to a thirty point lead at halftime (46-18). Kyra Lunsford and Artaeja Loatman led scoring for the Dukes with 12 points each. Loatman added 9 rebounds and Lunsford dished out 7 assists. The Women now improve to a blemish-free 9-0 record.
On the Men's side, the Dukes got off to a slow start due to early foul trouble. Starting members of the front court, Hikeem Pruitt and Olajuwon Rainner sat nearly the entire first half due to picking up two quick fouls less than two minutes into the game. The Cumberland bench was outstanding for most of the first half, cutting an early seventeen point defecit to five with under two minutes to go. A late surge by the Buccaneers of Atlantic Cape, pushed the lead to 11 at the break. In the second half, Cumberland could never get the lead under 9 and Atlantic paced their way to a 100-81 victory over the Dukes. The Men dropped to an overall record of 4-3 and a conference record of 3-2.
Both teams will take the court again at home this Saturday, December 13th. The ladies will tipoff at 12pm and the guys at 2pm.
