The Women's Basketball season is just one day away. Tomorrow, Cumberland will host the Community College of Philadelphia. Head Coach James Boney has been preparing all month for this season to start. Boney returns to Cumberland in his second year as the head coach. He not only has his sights set on improving on an extremely disappointing season last year, but Boney believes that he has a team that will make some noise in Region 19 this year.
Let's look at the Dukes roster to being the season. Cumberland is returning sophomores Tess Elder (Sacred Heart) and Meghan McMahon (Cumberland Regional) from last season. Elder looks to make a big impact this season after missing more than half of last season with an injury.
In addition, Cumberland welcomes in transfer Alicia Cox (Vineland) from Denmark Technical College. In 2011, Cox was name player of the year by the Atlantic City Press. Shanece Howard will also rejoin the Dukes after missing the last two seasons for academic reasons.
The Dukes have a much deeper team than a year ago and they will have to rely on their sophomores, but don't forget about incoming freshmen Mackenzie Wimberg (Absegami) and Kyra Lunsford (Vineland), and Morgan Gaines-Hunt (Millville).
