The Dukes cruised in their three game series sweep over Union County College this weekend. Sophomore Christopher Salvey shined the brightest, putting together a three-home-run afternoon on Saturday during games 2 and 3 to complete the sweep. In wins of 21-1 and 9-0, Salvey drove in a total of seven runs and scored five times on the day. Putting together an outstanding 4 for 6, 6 RBI performance in Friday's 12-1 win, the Folcroft, PA native certainly did not disappoint the home crowd on Saturday.
As for the Dukes top-ranked pitching staff, sophomore Justin Smith and Darien Martinez combined to secure game 1 with Martinez being named the winning pitcher. Freshman and King of Prussia native, Jarrett Quinn, stole the show in Game 2. Quinn tossed a complete-game shutout, including a season-high 15 strikeouts. The 15 strikeouts marks the most by a Dukes pitcher this season.
The three wins over the weekend pushed the unprecedented win streak to 32 consecutive games with a loss. Cumberland now boasts a 40-3 overall record and a 13-0 record in the Garden State Athletic Conference. The Dukes will face a tough road this week with an away Wednesday match-up with the #7 ranked team in the country, the Spartans of Northampton Community College. They will follow that up with a marquee three-game series between the #1 and #2 ranked teams in the country. Cumberland will host Rowan College at Gloucester County in Game 1 on Friday April 28th and then will travel to Gloucester for Games 2 and 3 on Saturday.
