The Lady Dukes fell short in a pair of games with Rowan College at Burlington County Thursday afternoon. The Dukes dropped Game 1 by a score of 3-1. Pitcher Liz Carpani kept RCBC within reach after the visiting Barons jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after one inning. Cumberland answered with one run of their own in the bottom half of the first frame: sophomore Samantha Sleister scored on a wild pitch. Unfortunately, that lone run is all the Lady Dukes could muster in Game 1. Carpani hit 2 for 3 with a double, supplying the only two Cumberland hits in the first half of the DH.
In Game 2, it was freshman Samantha Santos who kept the Dukes close both at the plate and in the circle. Santos pitched all five innings before the game was called due to darkness, allowing just two earned runs on three hits. Santos struck out two Baron batters and also did some damage with her bat. Trailing 3-1, Santos laced an RBI double to deep center that scored Meaghan Wilde. Cumberland will look to rebound from these narrow losses when they travel to Rowan College at Gloucester County for a confernce match-up on Thursday April 6th.
