One game will decide the Dukes fate. After coming from behind and winning the first game with a 8-4 score, errors came back to bite Cumberland in Game 2 as they fell to visiting Northampton 10-3. The final contest of the 3 game set will be played tomorrow May 5th at 12pm.
In Game 1, the Dukes trailed 3-1 going into the bottom of the 6th inning. Freshman Catcher Devin McCann reached on an error and freshman Ridge Herrman followed with a line-drive single to left field. Sophomore Seth Dorety then reached on a bunt single. The stage was set for relief pitcher turned first basemen, Terrence Stewart, who laced a bases clearing double to the left-center gap, to give the Dukes a 5-3 lead. An infield single by Giovanni Casiano padded to the lead in the sixth. Cumberland went on to win the first game 8-4.
Game 2 was a different outome. The Dukes kicked around the baseball numerous times and gave the Spartans from Northampton extra base runners all game. The opposing team out of Bethlehem, PA capitalized on four errors by the Dukes and cruised to a 10-3 win.
The stage is now set for a winner-take-all game Sunday afternoon. Southpaw Ridge Herrman will take the hill for the Dukes with a season record of 7-1 and a 3.08 ERA. The winner of game three Sunday will advance to a four-team double elimination style championship round next weekend.
