The Cumberland County Women's Basketball team won its 10th straight game, 77-73 on the road at Middlesex. The Dukes increase to 20-1 for the season and lock up the regular-season title in the Garden State Athletic Conference.
Led by the outstanding performance from Tamyra Smith, filling the stat sheet shooting 11-17 from the field (5-10 from the arc), grabbing 12 boards, four assist, and three blocked shots. Smith finished the game with a Career High of 27 points. Caroline Santiago had yet another double-double scoring 11 points and grabbing 23 rebounds. Jasmine Miro also contributed 15 points, all from beyond the arc and Jovan Childers tallied 12 points.
The Dukes led the way at half time with a 41-34 led, but the Colts came out strong and brought the led down to two at the 19:01 minute mark. The Dukes came back with a three pointer from Jasmine Miro and Tamyra Smith to keep the lead, and the Colts never brought the led within two. A strong play made by Smith with less than two minute to go in regulation, dribbling 94 feet through defense and getting a breakaway layup to seal the win.
Cumberland will be back in action on Tuesday, February 10 against Rowan College at Gloucester County and On Saturday, February 14 for the last game of the regular season which is also the Pink Game and Sophomore Day.
