Exciting news for the resurgent Cumberland softball program as freshman utility, Breanna Suppi, was named the NJCAA Region XIX All-Region 2nd Team.
Suppi was a catalyst for the Dukes as she was a top performer in the field playing First Base and Outfield, hitting at the top of the order, and pitching the 2nd most innings on the team. She finished in the top 3 in all offensive categories for Cumberland, including Hits (33), Runs (25), and RBIs (17). She was the team leader in triples with 7.
Her signature offensive game came when the team needed it most. In the final home game in the season, one that would keep their playoff hopes alive, Suppi delivered 3 triples, scored 3 runs, and drove in 4 in a 12-11 victory of Middlesex. She would be named Conference Player of the Week after her impressive performance.
On the mound, Breanna totaled 75.2 innings, striking out 47 hitters, and only gave up 61 earned runs. Her top outing came against Ocean County in which she twirled a gem. Suppi went 7 innings, scattered 6 hits, struck out 3, and did not give up a single run.
Defensively, Suppi was consistent and reliable as she only committed 8 errors in 127 chances to reel in a stellar .937 fielding percentage.
The future for Dukes softball is bright with Suppi returning along with a host of impactful freshmen.
