Cumberland Hires Les Olson to Take Over Softball Duties

Cumberland Hires Les Olson to Take Over Softball Duties

On Monday July 22nd, Director of Athletics Keith Gorman announced the official hiring of former Sacred Heart head coach Les Olson.  The decision came just a month and a half after Sacred Heart saw their last senior class graduate back in early June.

Olson will take over a program that finished 13-16 last season and this situation appears to be a great fit for both sides.  Cumberland's athletic programs are on the rise and Gorman feels that Olson can make the softball program competitive as early as next season and compete for Region XIX titles for years to come.

Dukes Softball is in good hands with the new coaching selection, as Olson is familiar with success and the term "win." At Sacred Heart, he compiled an overall record of 227-73, including four Cape Atlantic League National Division and Conference championships, three Non-Public South Jersey titles, and one State Title in 2012. The state title was the first in program history.

Olson has been apart of various coaching changes made at Cumberland heading into the 2013-14 seasons.  He joins Greg Goodwin and Don Palmucci, who were chosen to head the Men's Basketball and Women's Soccer programs respecitively.
