In 2-1 win over visiting Passaic County, the Dukes scored a goal in each half and survived a late goal from the Panthers to hold on for the win. Sophomore Jacob Cowan started off the scoring for the Dukes early in the first half on a cross from fellow sophomore Vincent Giardino.
In the second half, Jesus Tlaseca connected with freshman Derrick Boateng-Gyimah off of a free kick to push the Dukes lead to 2-0. Later in the half, Passaic scored their lone goal on a penalty kick resulting from a foul that still has the Cumberland coaching staff scratching their heads. Despite the late goal from the visiting Panthers, the Dukes held on to the narrow lead for their second win of the year.
With the victory, Cumberland has evened their conference record at 1-1 and pushed their overall record to 2-1. Up next, a home match against rival Rowan College at Gloucester County on Tuesday.
