After a successful weekend where the Cumberland County College Men's Basketball team earned wins at Bronx Community College (NY) and region/conference foe, Passaic County Community College, the Dukes look to extend their winning streak to 3 for the first time all season. In their way stood a fast, feisty team in Ocean County College. The Dukes were ready.
From the tip, the Dukes took an early 6-point lead which they would extend to 10 late in the first half. They would eventually take a 52-43 lead into intermission. Taylor Clarke and Amari Rex would lead the Dukes in the first half by attacking the basket and owning the paint area. Taylor Clarke would finish the game with a game-high 34 points to go along with 2 steals and 4 rebounds. Amari Rex would finish with 12 points and 6 rebounds in addition to altering multiple shots on the defensive end. Sophomore guard Kevin Clark recorded his first career triple double with 23 points, 14 rebounds, 10 assists, and 2 steals. It was an impressive night all around for the guard from Miami, FL, as the Sophomore captain provided leadership that cannot be tallied on a stat sheet.
Bolstering the Dukes were freshmen guards Michael Burden and Danny Williams. Burden recorded a double double scoring 20 points and pulling down 13 rebounds, while Williams contributed 12 points and 5 assists, respectively. However, it wasn't all roses for Cumberland as the Vikings stuck around and claw their way to and 88-86 lead late in the 2nd half. After a timeout, the Dukes roared back to a 10-0 run to retake the lead at 96-88. It would be a lead they would not relinquish as they went on to win 110-104 for their 3rd victory in as many games.
The Dukes are back in action Thursday, December 6, when they will host the Buccaneers of Atlantic Cape Community College. Tip off will be 7 PM.
