Cumberland started off strong and fended off any run Passaic could throw at the Dukes Thursday night on their way to an 83-68 road win. A 16-4 run to start the game put the Dukes in a good position but Newark native Jesse Jones had an answer early for Passaic as the Panthers closed the gap to 30-27 with 4:13 left in the first half. Cumberland ended the half on a 13-4 run of their own and led 43-31 at the break. The two teams traded baskets for most of the second half and the Dukes prevented another big run from the Panthers to secure the win. Freshman Ezekiel Shockley led the Dukes with 24 points on 10 of 16 shooting from the field and sophomore Hikeem Pruitt recorded his frist triple-double of the season. Pruitt scored 16 points on 7-14 from the field, pulled down 10 rebounds, and dished out 11 assists. Freshmen Olajuwon Rainner, Khyle Lee-Williams, and Tyler Pedro chipped in for 12, 10, and 9. Passaic's Jesse Jones scored a game-high 32 points. The Dukes improve to 7-10 in the Garden State Athletic Conference with the win and still have an outside shot at the playoffs with a home matchup against Middlesex on Saturday. The game will tip-off at 2pm.
