The Dukes battled an early 4-0 deficit after the first inning and 6-1 after the fourth, cutting the Tyler lead to just one run after the seventh, only to fall short by a 6-5 final score.
The Apaches of Tyler Junior College used a grand slam in the opening inning to jump on the Dukes early.
Trailing by five runs entering the seventh, the Dukes loaded the bases for sophomore catcher Mitch Walker. After a quick meeting at the mound, Tyler's pitcher bounced the next pitch which allowed one run to score.
On the next pitcher, Walker ripped a 1-0 pitch for a two-run double. Walker eventually scored on a Tyler throwing error. Walker finished the night 3 for 5 with a run and those two RBIs.
With the loss, the Dukes now await the winner of Century College and Niagara Count CC. Tyler advances straight to the Championship Game on Wednesday night. Cumberland will play the Century/Niagara winner at 7:00 PM on Tuesday.
