Cumberland Falls to Tyler

Cumberland Falls to Tyler

In a great game between the top two teams in the nation, the Dukes came up one run short to tournament host Tyler Junior College. This was Cumberland's first loss of the World Series. The Dukes will play again tomorrow night against the winner of Herkimer and Waubonsee matchup.

The Apaches of Tyler Junior College jumped out to a 2-1 lead after the first two innings, and that score stayed until the 7th inning.  TJC exploded for 4 runs in the top of the inning and then Cumberland answered back with 3 runs in the bottom half of that inning.

After an RBI double from Tim Gallagher, the Dukes pulled within one going into the last frame.  Jordan Glover scorched a ball but it happened to right into the glove of Tyler's Justin Monsour.  With two outs and two strikes, Cody Stashak roped a double down the left field and then Tyler Mixon followed with a single back up the middle to put the go ahead run on first base.

First baseman Arturo Ocasio put a well-hit ball up the middle but Gunnar Quick made the play and stepped on 2nd to end the ballgame with a 6-5 score.  Cumberland's Justin Geri pitched 6 innings in the losing effort.  Geri gave up four runs on six hits and seven walks and struck out four.

The Dukes will be back at it again tomorrow night at 8PM in an elimination game.  A win would put Cumberland in the Championship Game for a rematch against Tyler Junior College.
