Dukes Win Game 2 in Extras, Salvage Split with Ocean

Ocean County College stunned the #2 ranked Dukes in the first part of an afternoon doubleheader. After Cumberland's Anthony Lopez launched a two-run home run to start off the scoring in the top of the first, it was all Vikings after that. Scoring four runs in the second, four in the fourth, and two in the fifth, Ocean knocked off Cumberland 10-4.

In Game 2, Cumberland took a 2-0 lead in to the bottom of the 7th inning when Ocean put together a rally to force extra innings.  The pitching staffs held each other scoreless for innings eight and nine, then the Dukes broke through in the tenth frame.

Arturo Ocasio hustled out a ground ball that forced a throwing error. Ocasio moved to second on that overthrow to first base and then scored on a Tyler Mixon blooping single to short right field.

Justin Geri, who came on in relief for starting pitcher Ridge Herrman in the ninth, closed out the bottom half of the tenth to seal the victory in game 2.

The day started off in abnormal fashion.  The Dukes were schedule to play away at Ocean County College, but due to unplayable field conditions at Ocean the game was moved to Cumberland.  The loss in the first game snapped a fifteen game win streak for the Dukes.

Cumberland will play another doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Union County College. These will be the last two games in the Garden State Athletic Conference and the Dukes will need to sweep Union in order to match Gloucester's 14-2 record in the conference.
