Dukes Fall Short, Bounced from Playoffs

After splitting their double header against Northampton in Round 1 of the playoffs Saturday, the Dukes faced the Spartans again for a tiebreaker on Sunday. Down 2-6, the Dukes exploded to score seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead 9-6.  The Spartans of Northampton answered right back with three runs of their own tie the game at 9. Deadlocked at 12, the game entered the 9th inning.  On one crossed the plate for Northampton and the Dukes were held scoreless in the bottom of the bottom of the inning and the Cumberland  fell short by just one run in the heartbreaking 12-13 loss. Freshman Devin McCann went three for five with three RBIs and pitcher Ridge Herrman struck out five in the Dukes' final game. Despite the bittersweet ending, the Dukes finished the 2013 season with an impressive 33-14 record.
