In Cumberland's last two home games of the 2013 Season, the Dukes seemed to be clicking on all cylinders as the Region XIX playoffs loom just one week away. In Game one of the doubleheader, middle infielders Anthony Lopez and Vaughn Watson continued to be a dynamic one-two punch. Lopez went 2 for 4 with 3 runs scored including his nation's-leading ninth triple of the season. Watson chipped in with two RBIs of his own.
In Game 2, freshman southpaw George Read went 6 1/3 innings, scattering five hits, allowing 2 runs and striking out 6 batters. As Read remained steady on the mound, and the Dukes found themselves in a tight 5-4 game, the offensive exploded for 12 runs over the next two innings. Freshman Cody Stashak and sophomore Seth Dorety went a combined 7 for 8 and drove in 7 runs for the Dukes. Also of note, Lopez laced yet another triple in game two to add to his season total (10).
In what has been an up and down season, the Dukes find themselves at 32-12 overall for the season and appear to be finding their stride. Now fresh off of their first 30 win season in over ten years, Cumberland will now wait to find out their seed for the Region XIX Tournament.
