In Game 1, Cumberland trailed 5-2 entering the bottom of the 7th. They came all the way back to win on a Westchester throwing error that would have been the final out of the game. The visiting Vikings' short stop overthrew first base on a routine ground ball from Ridge Herrman, bringing in Seth Dorety and the game winning run in Devin McCann. Freshman Anthony Lopez went 2 for 3 and scored 2 runs while McCann was 1 for 4 with 2 RBIs. Freshman Terrance Stewart picked up the win in 1.2 innings of relief.
The second game was a quick 90 minute affair. Ridge Herrman pitched a 2 hit shotout, striking out five in the Dukes 2-0 victory. Sophomore Seth Dorety was a perfect 3 for 3 at the plate, driving in one of the Dukes two runs. Aside from the never quit attitude by the Dukes, the impressive part of Saturday was the fact that the Dukes were able to sweep another NJCAA Division II opponent. Westchester was the defending champs in Region 15 last season.
Since dropping their first game of the season, the Dukes have rattled off 10 straight victories. They'll look for wins 11 & 12 on Sunday at home against Rockland Cummunity College. The first pitch will be at 12 noon.
